Cob Plaster/Walls
Cob is a mix of 2 soil, 4 sand, 1 clay, and straw (2-3 inche pieces). It is cheap and strong but loses 1/4 inch per year to erosion. It must be capped with something like shingling (wood, slate, etc.) so the rain cannot erode it top-down.
Lime wash every 6 months will increase thickness and stop erosion and provide moisture resistance.
Linseed oil can be added to the mix as it is moisture resistant but it also weakens the structure.
R-Value is R1/foot
Lathe is metal wiring used to create sharp forners. Should be used for door and window frames
Spraying then troweling is the fastest application method.
Scoring/scratching the surface immediately after application of the first coat is essential. Some like the look so use it on a final coat as well.
